PHOENIX, March 4, 2010—Reach Out and Read Arizona (RORAZ) held it’s first-annual Books Eggstravanza!  breakfast this week at the Children’s Museum of Phoenix. During the event, the early literacy organization presented the RORAZ 2010 Storyteller Awards to a distinguished lineup of honorees for their contributions to early childhood development: J. Kipp Charlton, M.D., Eddie Basha and Nadine Mathis Basha, and the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF)-Macy’s Partnership for the campaign, “Book A Brighter Future.”
Donna Rossi of KPHO-TV 5 served as emcee of the event, held to raise awareness of RORAZ’s early literacy program (the only medically-based literacy model in Arizona), to expand the program throughout the state and to raise funds to sustain nearly 160 clinical RORAZ sites. The event was attended by 120 supporters of the critical importance of making reading part of healthy development, including Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, Phoenix City Councilman Tom Simplot and Verma Pastor on behalf of her husband, Congressman Ed Pastor.
Reach Out and Read Arizona is a program of the American Academy of Pediatrics-AZ Foundation, a designated 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, and an affiliate of the Reach Out and Read National Center, headquartered in Boston.
